In my recent research I have come across a brick wall when looking for the answers to some questions. One question being why traditionally have the results been read out in French and English. Is it because the headquarters of the EBU are in Geneva, a french speaking part of Switzerland? It seems to be taken for granted that 'douze points' and 'nul points' are common vocabulary of the ESC. But why is this?

Greetings from Vancouver Canada, where I watched via TV Polonia International. So the satellite and phone commentary systems both crashed? That explains the scratchy commentary about halfway through!

If anyone questioned the 50/50 system before, last night should put their concerns to rest. ALL the qualifiers had something positive on offer. NO poor entries made it through. That 10th envelope was the most exciting one in a long while, with perhaps 5 songs most folks though would qualify (Armenia, Turkey, Iceland, Norway, Albania) still not called.

In terms of the show, the heartbeat thump-thump between postcards and song starts is a great idea. However, while it's a beautiful stage, it's too big. Like Parken 01 too big: most of the acts seemed lost on it, especially in the pull back wideer angled shots.

If I were from any national delegation I'd put my folks in closely to one another--and fight for as few panorama shots as possible.

Unfortunately no print from me this year although I did manage to plug the ERN on Radio Scotland on May 26th. The link was only available for seven days so apologies for this pretty lame response!

Well done to everyone involved!

The ERN got very good coverage in the largest Norwegian newspaper, Aftenposten:

"Alltid uforustigbar" (Always unpredictable). Article by Toni, Karen and Phil translated into Norwegian, available online at:
http://www.aftenposten.no/meninger/kronikker/article3666450.ece

Reports from both the events in Aftenposten (paper only) on May 28. and May 29.

Finally, Culture Editor Knut Olav Åmås sums up the previous week's culture events on May 31, with a nice mention of ERN and the importance of the research, and questioning the lack of attention from other newspapers at the ERN seminar. Available at:
http://www.aftenposten.no/meninger/kommentatorer/aamaas/article3672134.ece
